Hair Removal
According to wikipedia,
Hair Removal, aka epilation or depilation, is the deliberate removal of body hair or head hair. Hair typically grows all over the human body and can vary in thickness and length across human populations.
There are many forms of hair removal, but, here at Shannon Aesthetic Spa, Electrolysis and Waxing are offered. These two methods are preferred for many reasons. Read more below.
Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a hair removal treatment. As an electrologist, I insert a thin probe into the hair follicle under the surface of the skin. An electric current moves down the wire to the bottom of the follicle, destroying the hair root.
Waxing
Waxing is a method of removing hair using heated wax. This heated wax adheres to the hairs, clinging to it during the removal process. There are 2 types of wax, hard wax and soft wax. Soft wax is removed using strips while hard wax doesn't.
Electrolysis
Welcome! I am happy to serve you and honored to be your choice for a quality hair removal experience. Electrolysis is the only form of permanent hair removal. I know! I was equally surprised, as I too thought it was Laser. Nope. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method that is good for every skin and hair type.
Here's the skinny,
How does it work:
When this tiny little probe is inserted into the hair follicle, a foot lever is pressed sending a small electrical energy into the base of the hair follicle killing it at its root, the blood vessel must be still attached to the hair follicle for this method to be effective. That is why we only treat hair in its active stage of hair growth.
Electrolysis catches hair in its active stage of hair growth, rendering it powerless while killing the food source that feeds hair growth.

Waxing
Waxing is one of the quickest methods leading to instant gratification. Hair will grow back but not fully for approximately 3-4 weeks depending on each person's genetics & hormones.
How does it work:
A generous amount of heated (warm to the skin) wax is spread over the area in small sections. The wax adheres to the hair and a cloth-like strip is applied and pulled gently but swiftly to remove the strip and the hair from its root. This causes the follicle to have to regenerate the hair slower that with methods like shaving. The hair grows back thinner and lighter in weight. There aren't any prickles like you feel from shaving either. The skin is left feeling smooth and wonderful.

Electrolysis Pre-Treatment Care
Shave the treatment area 5-7 days prior to your appointment each and every time. The actively growing hair is all we want to treat. Failure to shave will result in rescheduling the appointment.
Arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. Your time is your time. Whether you're at Walmart, the bank, in traffic, the restroom, etc...your time will end at the booked end time. Of course you'll be compensated accordingly if I am for some reason behind or tardy.
Discontinue the use of Isotretinoin, Accutane, any retinoids/retinols, topical medications Retin-A, Tazorac, Dierin, Epiduo, Ziana, 48 hours before appointment time.
Refrain from any types of exfoliating treatments, peels, glycolic acids, enzymes, etc. 48 hours before treatment.
If proned to cold sores, use medication such as Anbesol or Abreva 2 days prior, during, and after treatment of the lip area.
Avoid tanning (sun or spray) for 24 hours before and after treatment.
Refrain from all injectables fillers for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment.
Post-Treatment Care
Use only gentle cleanser for the first 3 days following treatment.
After the procedure, skin will be red and flushed and/or slightly puffy. You may experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch at the treatment area. This will diminish within a few hours after treatment.
Sensitive skin may experience red points and/or whitehead-like pimples, but this is normal. Do not squeeze or scratch these points or pimples. A warm compress will relieve any lingering puffiness, irritation, or discomfort. Do not use ice.
For successful results, do not apply lasers, wax, bleach, or tweezers to any treatment area. You may, however, shave the area between treatment sessions.
Successful results require strict adherence to your recommended treatment schedule, so stay on track and keep all appointments.
